Is DocSend worth it?

Updated November 1, 2026. By Vela Partners.

DocSend is a solid, legitimate product owned by Dropbox since 2021. It is worth it for teams that use its eSignatures, video analytics, Salesforce link or SSO. For a founder who mainly wants to know who read a deck, a free tool does that job.

The short answer

DocSend is worth it if you will use what only its paid plans give you. That means eSignatures, video engagement analytics, a Salesforce integration, single sign-on, or a branded subdomain. Plans start at $30 per user a month billed yearly, and data rooms with an NDA and a watermark start at $150 a month.

It is not worth it if you mainly want to know who opened your deck and which slides they read. ArtifactSend does that for free, with email verification, data rooms, an NDA and a watermark, and no seat price.

Is DocSend part of Dropbox?

Yes. Dropbox announced it would buy DocSend on March 9, 2021, for about $165 million in cash, and closed the deal on March 22, 2021. The product is now called Dropbox DocSend, and its help pages live on the Dropbox help center. It is still a separate product with its own plans, so a Dropbox subscription does not include it.

Is DocSend legit and reliable?

Yes, it is a legitimate product from a public company. At the time of the deal it had more than 17,000 customers. A DocSend link from someone you know is safe to open. As with any link, check that it really comes from that person, and that the address is docsend.com before you type your email.

Can you download a document on DocSend?

Only if the sender allows it. Each DocSend link has an Allow downloads setting. When it is on, readers can download and print from the viewer. When it is off, they can only read in the browser. Some files that DocSend cannot show in its viewer are download only. If you need a copy and the button is missing, ask the sender to change the link setting.

ArtifactSend has no download switch yet. It puts each reader's email on every page with a watermark instead, so a copy can be traced back to the person who opened it.

Only if you turn on Allow downloads for that link. Leave it off and readers can only view in the browser.
