Send a document from Claude or ChatGPT, then ask who read it
How to share a file as a tracked link from inside Claude or ChatGPT, and later ask the same chat who opened it and what they read.
The short answer
Add https://artifactsend.com/mcp as a connector in Claude or ChatGPT. Ask it to share your file with ArtifactSend. Later, ask the same assistant 'who read it?' and it reads the report for you.
The file can be a PDF, a Word, PowerPoint or Excel file, a Claude artifact, an HTML page or Markdown. Sending and updating are free. Your first 20 other actions are free too.
Why do it from the chat
Many documents now start in a chat. You draft the memo, the deck or the proposal with Claude or ChatGPT. Copying it out, uploading it and checking a dashboard later takes time.
With the connector, the assistant does those steps. You stay in one place, and you ask about readers in plain words.
Connect once
- In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors. Select Add custom connector, name it ArtifactSend and paste https://artifactsend.com/mcp.
- In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps. Turn on Developer mode under Advanced settings, select Create app, paste https://artifactsend.com/mcp and choose OAuth.
- In Claude Code, run: claude mcp add --scope user --transport http artifactsend https://artifactsend.com/mcp
- Sign in to ArtifactSend when asked, and select Allow.
Share a file
Attach the file or point to the artifact in the chat. Then say what you want. For example:
- 'Share this deck with ArtifactSend. Readers must confirm their email with a code.'
- 'Send this proposal so only people at acme.com can open it, and expire it on Friday.'
- 'Make one link per investor for this PDF: Dana Lee at Sequoia and Raj Patel at a16z.'
- 'Put these five files in a data room called Northwind diligence, with an NDA and a watermark.'
Ask who read it
Come back a day or a week later, in any chat with the connector on. Ask in plain words:
- 'Who read the deck I sent on Monday?'
- 'Which investors reached the traction slide, and who came back?'
- 'Who has not opened the board memo yet?'
- 'What did readers ask the proposal?'
- 'Who accepted the NDA in the diligence room?'
- 'Email me every Friday at 9 who read the update.'
What the assistant can see
- Each reader by email, when you use an email-based door.
- Visits, active reading time and how far each reader got.
- Time per page for PDFs, per slide for decks and per section for web pages.
- Clicks, copied text and the questions readers asked.
- For data rooms: who opened which document and who agreed to the NDA.
Update without a new link
Ask the assistant to change the document, then say 'update the ArtifactSend link'. Readers see the new version at the same address. The report keeps every visit under one link.
Readers can bring their own AI
A reader can also point their own Claude or ChatGPT at a shared link, after they pass the door. Their AI reads the document and answers their questions. You see each question their AI asks.
Cost
Connecting is free. Sending or updating a document through Claude or ChatGPT is free. Other actions, such as reading a report, cost $0.005 each from prepaid credits. Each space gets its first 20 actions free, so the first 'who read it?' works before you add credits. Asking who read a link is usually one or two actions.
Sharing, readers, doors, analytics and data rooms stay free whether you use the connector or not.
