# How to know which investors read your pitch deck

> How founders see which investors opened a pitch deck, which slides they read and what to do next.

## The short answer

Send your deck as a tracked link that asks for the reader's email. The report then shows each investor by email, the slides they saw and the time on each slide.

An attachment tells you nothing after you hit send. A tracked link tells you who opened it, when and how far they read. ArtifactSend does this for free for HTML decks and Claude artifact decks.

## Set it up in five steps

Use the email code door when you need to know the true reader. A typed email can be anyone. A code proves that the reader controls that inbox. ArtifactSend also refuses throwaway emails with a domain and MX check.

1. Build the deck as an HTML file or a Claude artifact. If you made it on claude.ai, download the file.
2. Drop the file into ArtifactSend, or ask Claude to send it with the ArtifactSend MCP.
3. Choose the email door, or the 6-digit email code door for proof.
4. Turn on the alert email for first open.
5. Create one link and send it to each investor.

## What the deck report shows

- Who opened: each reader by email, with the time of the first open.
- Visits: how many times each reader came back.
- Active reading time: time with the tab in focus and the reader moving, not idle time.
- Read depth: how many slides each reader saw.
- Time per slide: where each reader slowed down.
- Replay: the slide changes, clicks and cursor of each visit.

## How to read the signals

A second visit counts more than a long first visit. A return visit often means the investor shows the deck to a partner, or checks a number before a meeting.

Long time on the team slide or the market slide shows interest. Long time on the financials slide often means a question is coming. Prepare that answer before the call.

A reader who stops at slide 3 left early. Look at slide 3. It may be too dense, or the story may not hold there.

Copied text is a strong signal. If a reader copies your traction numbers, they probably paste them into an internal memo.

## What to do with the data

1. Follow up within one day with readers who came back twice or more.
2. Answer the slide they spent the most time on in your follow-up email.
3. Wait before you chase readers who opened once for under a minute. Send a short note with one new fact.
4. Fix the slide where most readers stop, then update the deck. The link stays the same.

## Update the deck without a new link

Decks change during a raise. With ArtifactSend, you upload a new version to the same link. Every investor sees the latest version. You do not need to send a second email that says 'use this one instead'.

If you build the deck in Claude Code, the MCP tool update_artifact pushes the new version for you.

## What not to read into the data

Do not treat a short visit as a no. Many investors scan a deck on a phone between meetings. They come back later on a laptop. Wait a few days before you draw a conclusion.

Do not treat a long visit as a yes. A reader may leave the tab open while they take a call. Active reading time removes most idle time, but one long visit is still one data point.

Do not compare investors to each other on time alone. A partner who read for four minutes and asked for a call beats an analyst who read for twenty minutes and went quiet. Use the data to decide where to look, then talk to people.

## Respect investor privacy

Tell investors that the link is tracked. Add a short line to your email. For example: 'This link shows me which slides you read. It helps me answer your questions.'

Do not share one investor's reading data with another investor. Use it only to prepare your own follow-up.

## Questions

**Can I see which slides an investor read?**

Yes. ArtifactSend shows time per slide and read depth for each reader of an HTML or artifact deck.

**Can I track a PDF deck?**

Not in ArtifactSend yet. PDF uploads are coming. Today, export the deck as HTML or build it as a Claude artifact.

**Does the investor need an account?**

No. The reader only gives an email, enters a code or uses Google sign-in, based on the door you pick.

**Is it free?**

Yes. Links, reader doors, per-slide analytics and replays are free.
