# How to share a Claude artifact privately and see who opened it

> Two ways to share a Claude artifact as a private, tracked link: download and drop the file, or ask Claude to send it with the ArtifactSend MCP.

## The short answer

Download the artifact file from Claude and drop it into ArtifactSend, or ask Claude to send it with the ArtifactSend MCP. You get a private link, a reader door of your choice and a report of who opened it.

Readers see the live, interactive artifact. Buttons, charts and tabs keep working.

## Why you cannot paste a claude.ai link

A published claude.ai artifact link cannot be read by other services. ArtifactSend cannot fetch it. So you give ArtifactSend the file itself. There are two ways to do this.

## Path 1: download and drop

1. Open the artifact in Claude.
2. Download it as a file. Most artifacts download as HTML or Markdown.
3. Go to artifactsend.com and drop the file onto the page.
4. Choose a reader door. For example, choose 'email code' to require a 6-digit code.
5. Optional: set an expiry date and turn on the first-open alert.
6. Copy the private link and send it.

## Path 2: ask Claude to send it

Add the ArtifactSend MCP server to Claude Code or Claude Desktop. The server address is https://artifactsend.com/mcp. Then ask Claude in plain words.

- 'Send this artifact to ArtifactSend with an email code door.'
- 'Share the dashboard with anyone at acme.com only, and expire it on Friday.'
- 'Who opened the pricing page link this week?'

## Pick the right reader door

For a board member or an investor, use email code or Google sign-in. For a wide audience, use the email door. For one partner company, use an allow list with their domain.

- Open link: anyone with the link can read. You see visits but not names.
- Email: the reader types an email. Fake and throwaway emails are refused.
- Email code: the reader enters a 6-digit code sent to their inbox. This proves the email.
- Google sign-in: the reader signs in with Google. This is fast and proves the account.
- Allow list: only listed emails or @domains can open the link.
- Expiry: the link stops working after a date.

## See who opened it

Open the link report. Each reader shows by email, with visits, active reading time and read depth. You also see time per section, a click map, copied text and repeated rage clicks. A replay shows each visit, with scroll, cursor and clicks.

Turn on the alert email to hear about the first open. Turn on the weekly report to get a summary of all links.

## Example: share a weekly dashboard with a client

You build a weekly results dashboard as a Claude artifact. It has a chart, a table and two tabs. You want only the client team to see it.

1. Download the artifact file from Claude.
2. Drop it into ArtifactSend.
3. Choose Google sign-in and add an allow list with the client's @domain.
4. Turn on the first-open alert.
5. Send the link to your client contact.
6. Each week, drop the new file onto the same link.

## Share inside your own team

Invite your colleagues to your ArtifactSend space. Members are free. Each member sees the links and reports in the space. This helps when one person builds the artifact and another person follows up with readers.

## Change the artifact after you send it

Ask Claude to change the artifact. Then send the new version to the same link. With the MCP, the tool is update_artifact. Without the MCP, drop the new file onto the existing link. Readers always see the latest version.

## If something looks wrong

- The page looks plain: the artifact used styles that load from claude.ai. Ask Claude to put all styles inside the file, then download it again.
- A chart is empty: the artifact loads data from a private address. Ask Claude to put the data inside the file.
- A reader cannot open the link: check the allow list and the expiry date in the link settings.

## Cost

Sharing, every reader door and all analytics are free. The free plan includes 500 MCP calls a month. Extra calls cost $1 per 1,000. Your own logo and subdomain cost $10 a month.
