# A Dropbox Send and Track alternative

## What happened

Send and Track was a Dropbox feature for sharing a file as a link and seeing who viewed it. Dropbox discontinued it on March 31, 2025, and announced it in the Dropbox Community.

If you relied on it, you need a new tool to see who opens what you send.

## What a replacement should do

- Share a file as a link, not an attachment.
- Ask for the reader's email, or a code sent to it, before the file opens.
- Show who opened it, when, and for how long.
- Show time on each page, so you know what they read.
- Let you put a new version behind the same link.
- Cost nothing for occasional sends.

## Move your files over

1. Find the files you used to share with Send and Track in your Dropbox.
2. Sign in at artifactsend.com with Google or an email code. No card.
3. Drop in a file, or make a data room for several.
4. Pick a door, such as email or email code.
5. Copy the link and send it. Open the report to see who read it.

## What ArtifactSend does not do yet

- eSignatures. DocSend includes them on paid plans, and Peony gives 3 a month free.
- Video with analytics. Most rivals track video on paid plans.
- Your own domain. Links on your domain instead of artifactsend.com.
- Password, download and screenshot controls. Today the email code, the watermark and the expiry cover most of this.
- Per-folder access and a Q and A thread in data rooms. Today a room has one door, and each person can get their own link.
- Slack, CRM and Zapier. Today Claude and ChatGPT read your reports through the MCP.
